Re-inspection
If a structure/device of your vehicle is evaluated as non-conforming to the Safety Regulations, you must carry out the appropriate maintenance checks again.
When the vehicle is in conforming condition as a result of the checks and maintenance, return to the inspection course for a re-inspection.
Upon undergoing a re-inspection, use the "re-inspection application button" or the interphone locate at the course entrance to notify your inspector of the re-inspecting parts.
Re-inspection on the same day
A re-inspection will be carried out on the disqualified part(s). If undergone on the day of the inspection, additional service charge is unnecessary. You may be charged for maintenance, however, if you take your vehicle to a maintenance garage.
Re-inspection on another day
To undergo a re-inspection on another day, you will need to pay the inspection service charge again.
Issuance of the Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate
When you receive a "Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate", you may carry out the re-inspection in one of the following ways.
If you need a "Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate", notify the inspector at the total evaluation room and present the application form to the appropriate reception counter.
Receiving maintenance at a designated maintenance garage
At a designated maintenance garage, present your vehicle and the "Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate" for maintenance and inspection, and have the "Limited Safety Regulations Conformity Certificate" issued. For Renewal Inspection, you do not need to bring in your vehicle to the Transport Branch Office where your vehicle had been inspected, if you present the "Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate" with the "Limited Safety Regulations Conformity Certificate". The inspection service charge for this procedure is 1,100 yen. (You will be charged separately by the designated maintenance garage for maintenance/inspection fees, etc.)
Receiving maintenance at a certified (not designated) maintenance garage, or doing it on your own
When carrying out maintenance on your own or at a certified maintenance garage, you must bring in your vehicle to the Transport Branch Office that issued the "Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate" for a re-inspection of the disqualified parts. The inspection service fee for this procedure is 1,200 yen, and reservation is unnecessary. (You will be charged separately by the certified maintenance garage for maintenance fees, etc.)
Issuance of the "Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate" is free of charge. Please be aware, however, that the valid term of the "Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate" is fifteen days, counting the day of its issuance (you are not allowed to run your vehicle with an expired Vehicle Inspection Certificate). If you do not undergo a re-inspection within the valid term of the "Limited Motor Vehicle Inspection Certificate", you must undergo another inspection again. Inspection charge for another inspection is 1,500 yen for ordinary-sized vehicles, and 1,400 yen for small-sized vehicles.
If your Vehicle Inspection Certificate is expired
Procedures for undergoing vehicle inspection will not change for vehicles with expired Vehicle Inspection Certificates, but because these vehicles are prohibited from being operated on public roads, you must bring in your vehicle using one of the methods listed below.
- Have a truck or an automobile tow your vehicle to the inspection station
- Acquire a temporary number
- For information on temporary number application, consult a Transport Branch Office or a local Public Office (Public Department).
